Loving your Neighbor Series # 3

Today’s super neat find is actually a website for an organization that helps people with a heart to volunteer, but no clue what to do beyond that.  At Volunteer Match,  you can pick from lists or do a more specific search to find opportunities to volunteer in areas that you care about.  I feel it is a really great tool for everyone.  There are even virtual opportunities for people who aren’t comfortable with working in the field.  You can find out more about them here.

Hope you’ll check them out!

Loving your Neighbor Series

Although it has been quite awhile since I have written, I continue to have a heart to write and a hope within me to make some lasting, beneficial contribution to this world while I am in it.  The idea has come to me to attempt a series of posts about things we can do to show love and kindness to others in this mad, marvelous world in which we live.  I hope to find unique charities, support groups, etc to which contributions can be made.  As a Christian, I feel called to show Gods love through service and support to those in need.  However, we all know that the showing of love and kindness to others is not limited to those who are Christian.  All it takes is an inner desire to do good unto others, a desire for a better life for all, a desire for a better world for all who live in it.  I hope that this will be a fruitful effort and will inspire others with a heart for the humanitarian effort.

Without further adieu, I present an organization that I recently came across and was so moved that this whole idea was born to me.  NICU Helping Hands is an organization that was formed from the recognition of the vast emotional, physical, and financial needs of families with premature, sick, or otherwise special-need babies.  They provide many support services to these families and have multiple ways to contribute.  As a nurse and a mother, I feel this organization is providing a beautiful, loving service.  I hope that everyone will check them out and maybe even find a desire to contribute to their good works.

Happiness

20120606-210558.jpg

I have decided to revamp my life a little in the search of a little more happiness. I mean, what makes us happy anyway? I believe that answer could be drastically different from person to person, however there must be a basic root for us all. I know there are a multitude of books, websites, blogs, etc on this subject already. Let’s just say I’m a hands on learner.

To be continued…..

One Day We All Shall Perish 2

20120211-234905.jpg

Anne Frank passed away nearly 67 years ago in early March of 1945. Her story and the stories of others like Elie Wiesel opened a window for everyone to see and feel the horror of the Holocaust. I post this in memory of and thanks to Anne. I also thank Elie and the many others who have told their stories for opening their hearts, bearing their souls, and sharing them with the world.

Whitney Houston has passed away. She had so much talent and yet such a tragic life as portrayed by the media. I send out prayers for her family and friends.

How Romantic

I’ve been sitting here, still pondering Valentine’s Day and other such romanticism, when I remembered this really great site I found once upon a time. You should check it out: Cardboard Love Notes

Locks of Love…Padlocks That Is

20120104-205452.jpg

So, I just learned about this new incredibly sweet lover’s tradition of sorts that I understand is referred to as Love Padlocks. I first read about it on one of my favorite blogs: Design Mom. I was of course fascinated by it so I googled it and wow! It is apparently a really popular tradition that started up in the 1980s in Hungary and has since spread like crazy. The tradition from what I can tell is to personalize the lock with the lovers’ names or initials, etc; place the lock; then throw the key into the nearest body of water to signify never-ending love. It makes me want to go put a padlock on something! What about you?

Taking Risks

I wanted to quickly share something I heard last night.  I was in the hallway getting meds together and was listening to the multiple televisions playing in the patients’ rooms.  Because of that I am unaware as to what channel it was or any kind of specifics.  I did hear enough to understand that it was some type of memorial speech related to the recent loss of 2 students at a local community college.  I heard the speaker say, ” The easiest way to remember you have nothing to lose in life is to face the fact that one day you are going to die.”  He also said something I’ve heard many times in many ways, “We all want to go to Heaven, but none of us want to die to get there.”  I felt it was a reminder that we do need to try to live our lives to the fullest.  I do believe that God has given us the wisdom to take care and not be reckless.  I also believe that if we live our lives so cautiously that we never take any risks or try anything new, we have to question if we are truly living or just existing.  I pray that we all find our own way to appreciate and celebrate this blessing of life.
